Chickenpox, also known as varicella, is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. It is characterized by an itchy rash with red spots that eventually develop into fluid-filled blisters, along with fever and general discomfort. While it is more common in children, adults can also contract the virus if they haven’t been vaccinated or had the disease before. Treatment typically involves managing symptoms with antihistamines, pain relievers, and calamine lotion to soothe itching. Additionally, the varicella vaccine is highly effective in preventing chickenpox.
